Spatial Design

Interplay of Spaces and Processes

My approach to spatial design focuses on the dynamic interaction between social, cultural, and political processes and physical structures—and how they shape each other. I see spaces as active participants that influence what kinds of experiences, interactions, and ways of working together become possible.

For example, grund_schule der künste berlin, I designed a space enabling future art teachers, together with children, to explore new approaches to aesthetic education. At Humboldt University Berlin, the Senate Hall redesign introduced a second stage to encourage a wider variety of gatherings—from intimate conversations to large presentations and experimental formats.

I also design individual workspaces that support diverse collaboration and leadership styles, such as the Presidential Offices at Humboldt University Berlin and UdK Berlin. For the festival/exhibition Driving the Human, I developed exhibition designs alongside mediation concepts that actively engaged visitors with the works. Additionally, I supported institutional development processes by creating a pilot project to test internal procedures, resulting in a manual that guides staff to independently furnish and shape their work environments.

Together with Studio Alex Valder, we cover project scopes from concept development and design to implementation. Our process begins with interviews and observations to understand social and work processes. We develop two alternative proposals to explore potentials with clients, followed by detailed planning, material sampling, and 1:1 prototyping to ensure quality and feasibility, concluding with final acceptance.
